Gardening Tips Galore
There are many secrets and ideas that gardeners can share
with each other. This listing is just a few ideas and tips
that come to mind when I am actually doing thing in my garden.
While your gardening habits will vary I thought you might
like a few ideas for this time of year.
October and November are great months to plant new trees.
When you transplant new trees or shrubs you would make sure
you water them before leaving them on their own for the
winter hibernation!
If you live in a cold windy area, you might want to wrap
the truck of the tree with a cloth to prevent the wind from
damaging the bark of this new growing tree.
You should be composting all year round. Remembering to
add to and to water your compost pile will ensure that you
have a great source for the spring planting time.
You can cover your new evergreens or plants with a sheet,
rug or other types of materials when the frost first comes
so that you prolong their growing season and make them stronger
for the winter months ahead.
When the temperature starts to dip down to 35 degree F
you should be bringing in your container plants. You can
keep growing your container plants all winter in the greenhouse.
Bringing in your containers that are ceramic or similar
material will prevent them from breaking from the extreme
cold weather.
If you want to learn to force bulbs indoors, you could
be digging some of these bulbs up and putting them in your
refrigerator for about a month. Then when you want to plant
the bulbs and to get them to start, dont keep them anywhere
that is more than fifty-five degrees. The lower the temperature
when they first are planted the more likely you are to succeed.
If you are going to mulch your outdoor plants and gardens
you should wait until the ground is frozen.
During the months of November and December and even into
January gardeners often share or trade their extra seeds
in hopes of getting new kinds of flowers and vegetables
for their gardens.
When gardening in the greenhouse and you are entering the
months where your plants are getting larger, brush your
hands across the plant tops. This keeps the plant a little
stronger. Often when a plant doesnt have to fight the winds
or even the breezes of the outdoor garden they might seem
weaker. Brushing your hands across the tops of your plants
also promotes pollination!
